Domination is an intense, infantry only game mode that made its debut in Battlefield 3: Close Quarters. Battlefield 4 developer details multiplayer progression, rewards

Battlefield multiplayer traditionally features a deep system of ranks and upgrades, and Battlefield 4 will be no different, developer EA DICE explained today in a blog post laying out the details of the game's progression.

Battlefield 4 offers 100 ranks (based on total score) going all the way up to Colonel, but the progression doesn't end there — the game includes assignments that are open only to high-ranking players.

It'll be somewhat easier to rack up points, since you'll now earn points for actions like attempting to capture a point even if you're not successful. So even if you get killed right before managing to secure a capture point, you'll still receive all the experience points leading up to that moment. Even beginning to arm or disarm an objective will generate points. In addition, a kill assist now counts as a kill — if you damage an enemy and someone else gets the kill, you'll also receive full credit.

DICE has also redesigned the unlocking system to focus it on weapons instead of classes. That is, if you tend to play with sniper rifles, you'll unlock more and more sniper rifles and sniper accessories, as opposed to having to use the Recon class exclusively. And the game's Battlepacks provide a random set of unlocks whenever you rank up. Finally, the Battlelog app will allow you to track up to three goals to see how far you've made it toward that goal.

Battlefield 4 launches Oct. 29 on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Nov. 12 on PlayStation 4 and Nov. 19 on Xbox One.
